Healthy kids are the foundation for strong communities, which is why we fund public school wellness projects every year. Here’s another program that enhances kids’ wellbeing.
Currently, The Fresh Air Fund is looking for runners and sponsors to join the Fresh Air Fund-Racers Team in a half-marathon in New York City on August 16th. This is a great opportunity to help thousands of low-income NYC children. Visit their website to sponsor a runner or to register as a runner.
The Fresh Air Fund raises money to provide free summer vacations to NYC children in low-income families. The children visit volunteer host families in suburbs and small town communities across 13 states and are typically re-invited year after year and form life-long friendships. Also, every year 3,000 children attend summer camp at Fresh Air camps in Fishkill, New York where they take classes on swimming, dancing, and art, go on overnight hiking trips, and meet new friends. Adolescent campers are able to participate in classes to expand their career and educational opportunities and are also provided tutoring, job shadowing, and a career fair. Beyond camp, Career Awareness graduates are supported through the PreOccupations Club where they are given guidance from volunteer mentors.
Fresh Air Fund is also in need of friendly town host families for next month. Host families open their hearts and homes to NYC children who don’t not have the opportunity to escape the hot, crowded city streets. Please, visit Fresh Air Fund to sign up or for more information on hosting a child in need.
