How Not To Build Your LinkedIn Network

If you’re just notching your belt so you feel good about your 5,000 BFF, don’t waste our time or yours.

Got a LI connection invite last week from someone who runs a wellness business.  Cool!

So I accepted it and replied with a personal note inquiring about her professional interests, because I actually want to know the people in my network (old-school, I know…).

Got a cursory reply – with typos – pointing me to her website and completely ignoring my question.  Now that wasn’t cool, so I dropped her from my LI network.

Moral of the story: if you reach out to people, most of us assume you actually want to communicate.  If you really believe that simply adding the names of strangers to your Rolodex helps your business, expect to be disappointed.
